Coffee Date Friday | Life Update & Insecurities

Welcome to the first (well in a while) Coffee Date Friday! :) I'm joining up with my good friend Alissa today to bring you a fun little "coffee date" so that we can chat and catch up on life. I have to apologize in advance because my video is a little longer than I planned... but it is worth it! Let's get real about insecurities, mmmkay?

I get a little rambly there at the end but the truth is, all of these insecurities just hit me out of nowhere this week! I mentioned a little something on Instagram, right before I walked in to the brunch, and I had a friend text and remind me that not only am I awesome, but I hold the ship up straight for four pretty boss babes. At the time, it did very little to boost my self esteem, but the more I think about it the more she is right.

So all of that to say - what are you insecure about that you just can't shake? I've found that the thing I'm most insecure about is the thing that others find to be my best quality - have you felt that way too? I want to hear about it in the comments!

  1. My best and worst quality is how nice I am to everyone. I am oftentimes too nice. Like, to the point where clients walk all over me sometimes, don't pay their invoices on time (and don't talk to me about it) or they're late and push me and my next sessions later than necessary because I'm just that nice. I don't know how to speak up. I'm always afraid people are going to feel negatively about me if I do, and I'm super insecure about it.

    1. I am always too nice to people and I've paid the price for it too! You are not alone! I'm still working on standing up for myself. When I first started out as a VA I was so nervous to remind someone to pay their invoices but eventually it got to the point where I wasn't getting any income. So I had to say something! Thank you for sharing that and know that it was not easy for me to speak up and say something. I had to push myself (and sometimes still do!)

  3. Love this! I love that you gave props to the day care ladies! They work really hard and a lot of them don't get the credit that they deserve. I am going to have to look into Mom 2.0 I have never went to a blogger conference before!

  4. Thanks for opening yourself up about your debt. I think we are all insecure to some extent...after all we are human. I'm most insecure about feeling rejected and criticized. I just started a blog this week after a lot of encouragement from my friends and family...and I still feel like it wont be good enough. I compare myself to all the other wonderful blogs out there and wonder if I'll ever have anything worth reading. I know I need to be patient with myself and have the "eh, who cares" attitude but that's just not reality. So, here's to being a better us, one day at a time!

  5. Oh my goodness, I needed to hear your post today something fierce. I struggle with my insecurities on the daily - especially when I have to meet new people. Will they be accepting of me? Do they think I'm too old? What about my weight and what I'm wearing....Ugh! It's infuriating. So, thank you for opening up. And you are just a wonderful human being and I thank our Father Up There that he had us officially meet last year. Love ya girly!

    1. I love you so much girl!! It is so hard to jump into a community sometimes, especially one that is all women - but it helps to know that we are all thinking almost the same thing! xoxo

  6. It's strange, I'm getting more confident and more insecure every day I get older. Must be hormonal mood swings or something. One day, I'm like "yea, I got this supermom and wonder wife thing down" and the next I'm in tears over a failure.

    1. That is so me too!! I feel like I've got it all under control one day and the next I'm just like, "someone bring me coffee and tissues I'll be on the couch all day." Nice to know we get a fresh start every day!

  11. oh my goodness I was just talking with my sis the other day about feeling insecure & how the older I get, the more insecure I get around other people. I am totally confident with myself but insecure being around others - maybe it's I haven't really found the current 'tribe' I need to be a part of yet but nonetheless it can get to you. Hang in there & keep praying - like you said, God doesn't make mistakes so there's a reason we are where we are!

    1. I find that the older I get the more I feel that way too!! Especially since I don't have a conventional job - people are always questioning what I do and why I do it. Once I get the chance to explain they get it but I always feel like I have to defend my career! Finding a tribe is super important too even if it is just a couple of people who get you!! :) Thanks for stopping by Laura!

  12. Great post! I think when we start opening up about those insecurities we find we aren't alone and then we actually feel more secure. You did this in a public way. Applause!

  13. Well done for opening up that takes a lot of courage. I am feeling the same at the moment and it is definitely stressing me out but I think we all need to remind ourselves that there are people who are worse off.

  17. I loved that you opened up, it's so refreshing! I spent the last few years in an industry that has made me feel that same way. I would show up to get togethers, coffee dates, etc, and ALWAYS feel out of my comfort zone. And your right, God puts us their for a reason. <3

  18. I used to always want to make sure everyone else was OK before I could ever think about myself, and I ended up running myself into the ground. So now I am more prone to say no, but constantly thinking about what others think of me saying no.

  21. I'm trying to think of what I feel most insecure about, and one of my biggest ones probably has to do with not being able to drive. I think it goes beyond a fear (because it's not really a fear that I have), and has something to do with an insecurity I have yet to pinpoint.

    1. I was so insecure for soooo long about having a blog and an etsy shop too!! It seemed so.... Amateur? I can't think of the right word to describe it but I'm right there with you! Keep working through it - the thing that finally changed my world was realizing that if I didn't take my blog and shop seriously as a business then nobody else would either! Best of luck to you!!!

  23. Ironically, I feel a bit like that with this coffee date thing - I enjoy meeting other people like this, but it seems like everyone often feels like they have to be a certain way as a blogger, and I'm totally not interested in surface-y stuff, so I love that you shared about your experience going to that fancy blog thingie. I can totally relate to that from a sponsored video thing I did last year on a set. I'm so not a fashion blogger either. It's funny how just saying that, everyone can know what you mean really easily, LOL.

Oh, and I totally relate to you on the Dave Ramsey stuff, too. We went through the class with our church only a few months after we were married in 2004 and it totally changed the trajectory for our life because it opened up our eyes to look at things and approach life a lot differently. No one who hasn't been through the class really just quite gets it :)
