defining success: cheerful

does my work make me smile? does is leave that sense of buoyancy in my chest that makes me bubble along and grin from ear to ear just because i love it?

defining success

being cheerful with my life is something i have rarely experienced. this is mostly my fault. i am always looking ahead for what else i could be doing instead of seeing what is right in front of me. i am constantly thinking "man i would be SO much happier doing..." when i could be perfectly happy with where i presently stand if i could just appreciate my moment in life now.

how easy is it to focus on all the negative that surrounds us? for me it is toooo easy. way to easy. i'd much rather look at all the crappy parts of my life and complain about it because sometimes it just gives me something to talk about. do you every feel this way? thank goodness for #shereadstruth and all the women involved to help me get the negative + toxic out of my life.

how do we be cheerful in our life and in our journey to personal success?

the answer is easy: remember that part in peter pan when they are learning how to fly? all it takes is faith and trust... and a little bit of pixie dust! oh - and don't forget that happy memory - so essential in learning how to fly.

{why yes - i did just make a disney movie reference!}

every day, focus on one thing that makes you fizzy, bubbly, bouyant with happiness. is it morning time spent in His word? is it the five minutes you take for yourself right before bed to put on yummy smelling lotion? is it throwing the ball for your pup in the yard or snuggling with your babies first thing in the morning?

for a few minutes each day, focus on that moment and feel yourself inflate with happiness, like your tummy is full of champagne. let yourself elevate a few feet off the ground and float around in this happiness! remember this moment when you have a backslide moment - an unhappy customer, a mean comment, or a moment of complete un-inspiration.

remember that you alone own that balloon in your chest that fills up when you are truly cheerful! you alone define your journey to success and only you can allow that balloon to be popped. guard that cheerful moment! make it a landmark along your path and remember it often.

tell us - what is your cheerful moment? or if you don't want to share it, what about a time that your cheerful moment has pulled you out of a slump?

  1. it's sad but my cheerful moment is driving home from work. I dont like my job so those 15 minutes are mine to shake off the day.

    1. I can totally relate to that! I don't love my job either but it pays the bills and gives me time to blog so I deal with it... :)

  3. I needed this reminder this morning, friend. Several years ago I had a real attitude shift and started living for today rather than what could be tomorrow. However, I've been in a funk for a few days and really needed this reminder that I am in control of my mood. The best advice I ever got was to view your life as a movie - what is happening now is contributing to what will happen in 5 years so make the best of it - whatever it is! My happy place right now is snuggling with my little man (and his daddy!) and listening to baby giggles. Life is good but this season will be over far too quickly!

    1. I'm so glad I was able to offer the reminder to you friend! I love the comparison of our live to a movie - what I am doing now and what God is doing in my life is shaping what's to come. What a comforting thought to have! Thanks for the sweet comment!!

    1. Thanks Cassie! I love those 15 minutes in bed before I konk out too - that is when I try to do my devotional and also when the hubs and I have some of our best conversations as well!

  5. Do I ever feel this way? 'How easy is it to focus on all the negative that surrounds us? for me it is toooo easy. way to easy.' Ummm YES I DO! It is so easy for me to wallow in my sorrows, but my husband constantly reminds me of all the good we have. (I guess thats why I let him stick around ;) LOL!) We are each others support, and when he is having a down day I do the same for him! I really needed this post - with our move and everything ahead of us I have been finding myself slipping into crying fits and depressive thoughts about the 'bad' instead of looking at all of the good I have! Thanks Skye! I'm off to find some pixie dust ;)

    1. I love your comment Kelsey! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that struggles with remembering all that I do have in life! We are definitely so blessed to each have hubby's who support us and also lean on us when they need it as well! I hope everything goes well with the move and that you guys get a new place quickly!
